The Voice from the Dark is an immersive analogue-horror and transmedia mystery built around recovered transmissions, redacted documents and the remains of a long-classified research programme known as Project ECHO.
At its centre is a rediscovered signal that should not exist. Project ECHO was tasked with isolating the mysterious Dark Band, determining whether an intelligence lay behind it, and ultimately attempting to communicate with whatever was transmitting.
What survives in the archive suggests something stranger. The signal appears fragmented, responsive and disturbingly aware. Some recovered material indicates that it may anticipate input; other records suggest that attempts to suppress or weaponise it may have damaged whatever was trying to communicate.
Created and presented by Steven Dark, the project combines writing, voice performance, narration, sound design, archive-style video and interactive storytelling as the Project ECHO files are gradually recovered and released.
